February 2, 2011 -- It may seem crazy in sub-freezing temperatures, but the Houston City Hall Farmers Market is really reopening today after a break during January.

"My hands are numb," Crave chef Tarsha Gary said this morning as she set up her booth with assistant Clinton Jackson.

To offset the cold, there's free hot cocoa and seating inside City Hall.

As an extra incentive, the IDOL Across America tour bus from the television show American Idol is scheduled to visit the market today.

The City Hall Farmers Market has about 40 vendors along both sides of the reflecting pool in the 900 block of Smith Street. Goods typically include local farmers' fresh produce, cheeses, breads and a variety of prepared meals and food trucks.

A project of Urban Harvest and the City of Houston, the mid-day Wednesday market opened in October as a pilot project.

It is scheduled to be open 11 a.m.-2 p.m. each Wednesday through June. After a summer break, it will start again in September.
