LOCAL ARCHITECT DONATES SEVEN TONS TO REUSE WAREHOUSE
October 8, 2009 -- Karen Lantz, a local architect who is deconstructing her house in the Museum District, is building a new house on the same property.
She has donated nearly seven tons of material to the Reuse Warehouse. She has a blog about her work, and writes some very nice things about the Reuse Warehouse. Karen is clearly a fan of this City project, because as she notes, there are few if any demo companies in town willing to do full deconstruction. Habitat for Humanity Northwest has a deconstruction team that is doing a lot of the work, and also receiving some of the material. Even though this process takes some more time and labor than a traditional demo job, she will receive a big tax credit for all her donations, and is happy to be providing more jobs in the process. Keith has also shared that Project Row Houses will be able to make use of much of the material Karen has brought to the Reuse Warehouse.

This is really exciting, and shows that people do see the value in these materials. The City and especially SWD should be proud to have a facility to help make this type of project possible.
